North-facing, one window, no direct sun at any point in the day. Nine plants went in; this is how they did after twelve months.
The two that thrived
ZZ plant and cast iron plant. Both grew visibly, both were forgotten for weeks at a time, neither complained.
The five that were fine
Snake plant, pothos, philodendron, peace lily and spider plant all held their shape without growing much. In low light they need roughly half the water you would expect.
The two that failed
A fiddle leaf fig and a calathea. The fig dropped leaves from month two; the calathea browned at the edges no matter what the humidity was.
The one rule that mattered
Less water, not more. In a dim room the soil stays wet far longer than the plant can use it, and the roots go first.
