Layer the textures

A room can have the right colours and still feel flat. Texture is usually what is missing.

Four families

Something soft, something woven, something hard, something living. Wool, rattan, ceramic, plant. Hit all four in a room and it stops looking like a showroom.

Keep the ratio loose

Roughly half soft, a quarter hard, the rest woven and living. Precision is not the point — contrast is.
