Drainage is not optional

A pot without a hole kills more plants than underwatering. Use it as a cover pot with a plastic nursery pot inside.

Size up slowly

Two to four centimetres wider than the current pot. A big jump leaves wet soil the roots cannot reach.

Material

Terracotta dries fast and suits anything that hates wet feet. Glazed ceramic holds water and suits ferns and calatheas.
