Fix the lighting

Lighting decides how every colour and texture in the room reads. Getting it right first saves buying things twice.

Do this before furniture

Warm bulbs, three sources, nothing on the ceiling as the only light. Once the room looks right at night, colour choices get much easier.

Plug-in only, if you rent

Plug-in wall sconces, clamp lights and floor lamps cover almost every case without touching the wiring.
