Hotel beds look the way they do because of an order of operations, not because of thread count. The order survives being adapted to one duvet and four pillows.
The order
Fitted sheet, duvet folded back by a third, two sleeping pillows standing up, two larger pillows in front, one throw across the bottom third at an angle. Ninety seconds once it is habit.
The fold is the whole trick
Folding the duvet back rather than pulling it flat gives the bed a horizontal line and some visible depth. A flat duvet reads as unmade even when it is perfectly straight.
Colour
Keep the sheets and duvet in one family and let the throw be the only contrast. Two patterns on a bed almost never works in a small room.
